Hello, I am Dr. Anneli Riismaa. I have a Doctorate in clinical psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology/Argosy University. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of Illinois and New Jersey. I have worked as a therapist in the state of Illinois for over a decade. The majority of my work as a therapist has been with individuals with the history of domestic violence; trauma; sexual, emotional and physical abuse; as well as with individuals with the history of pornography use problems and their families. I work with individuals as well as couples. My work with couples focuses on the improvement of communication and intimacy. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, favoring the non-directive client-centered method of therapy.
I had a privilege to be a presenter at the American Psychological Association (APA) convention in August 2016 on the topic of depression, marital communication, congruence with religious values and pornography use. Additionally, I was a presenter at the Midwest Psychological Association (MPA) conference in 2013 as well as at the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapist (AMCAP) convention in 2013.
I was born in Estonia and have resided in Finland and Sweden prior to moving to the United States. Before switching careers over a decade ago, I was a dental hygienist and a translator, as well as an instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry/City Colleges of Chicago for 4 years and a faculty member at the Sanford Brown College.
